How Art Made the World Theme: Daniel Mulhern

I watched a fascinating BBC Documentary, How Art Made the World, twice.  Of course,

Dr. Nigel Spivey's explanation about how art has influence our lives is insightful and informative.

Philippe Jaroussky

After I heard the background music of David episode in Power of Art, I was curious about not only the music but also the singer.  The singer is Philippe Jaroussky, countertenor.  His live is a little bit worse than the recorded song.  By the way, The soprano who sings with him at the end of the video sounds bothering his beautiful voice.  She should not have shown up.

Nisi Dominus in G Minor, RV 608: IV. Cum Dederit

I have watched several times Simon Schama's Power of Art, which is as much a masterpiece as paintings that he deals with.  In particular, I am very impressed by a background music used in David episode.  His DVD did not leave any information about background musics.  So, I googled and found that so many people had the same curiosity as I have.  That is "Nisi Dominus in G Minor, RV 608: IV. "Everything I own" has been sung by many singers in different styles.  I think that Vanessa Hudgens's version is best.  This is a really masterpiece.

Hips don't lie

When I heard this song almost three years ago from a radio program at midnight, I could not sleep.  The music video looks a little bit strange.  But, the song sung by Shakira is quite rhythmical.  Her boyish voice is charming.

La Seine

After I watched the animation movie, A Monster in Paris, my favorate expression is "I don't know, don't know, so don't ask me why".  This song that was sung by Vanessa Paradis and M is really lovely.  A funny thing is that English version is better than original French version.  M's voice in English version is amazing.  Vanessa Paradis was a girl friend of Jonny Depp.

Young Folks

I like the song played and sung by the three Swedish guys: Peter, Bjorn, and John.  In particular, I like the lead singer's whistling.  By the way, I don't understand why a female singer is frequently changed.  Most female singers' lives have been not as good as the original one.
